Stay at Funken Lodge

With modern comfort in historical surroundings, Funken Lodge offers a unique Svalbard experience. This luxurious boutique hotel is located on a hill in Longyearbyen, with magnificent views over town and the two glaciers Larsbreen and Longyearbreen. The cosy atmosphere creates a tranquil base to relax in after intense days outdoors. All of the rooms have a contemporary design, and the friendly staff will ensure you an unforgettable stay.

Included in this package is a 5-course Easter dinner in Funktionærmessen Restaurant. The restaurant was originally the dining hall for the officials of the mining company, who were to have only the best. The combination of first-class cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere sets the stage for a unique culinary experience. Here you can enjoy delicious food and drink, while admiring the spectacular view over Longyearbyen.

Dinner in Funktionærmessen Restaurant

Inspired by an international kitchen and high-quality ingredients, a great culinary experience awaits you at Funktionærmessen Restaurant. Here you have a fantastic view over Longyearbyen, while enjoying delicious food and drinks. The highly knowledgable staff will help you find the perfect drink that compliments your food.

Funken Lodge also has its own Champagne cellar and a newly refurbished wine cellar. Here you can book private tastings - a unique and exclusive experience!

Snowcat tour with a fantastic view

The goal for the tour is the excellent viewpoint, ‘Linken’ part of the way up the side of the mountain ‘Hiorthfjellet’ on the other side of Adventdalen. Our first stop will be at the polar bear sign at the edge of town, where the striking sign reminds us that we are visitors in the realm of the polar bear.

From here we cross the Adventdalen, heading towards Hiorthhamn. This was one of the first Norwegian mining towns on Svalbard, and in the early 1900s there were barracks, a blacksmith, stores, kitchens, a sawmill, hospital, housing, offices and a series of mine constructions to be found here. You will have to use a bit of fantasy to imagine the bustling outpost of days gone by. Just before we reach the old town, which is now a popular spot for local cabins, we will turn north, and the guide will navigate the snowcat up through Telegrafdalen.

Once we arrive at the amazing viewpoint, ‘Linken’, we will take a break and enjoy the fabulous views towards Longyearbyen while our guide serves hot drinks. You can look across to the Svalbard satellite station on Platåberget - the plateau mountain. This station is used by NASA amongst others, to download information from satellites in polar orbit, and it is the northernmost satellite station in the world. From Linken it sort of looks like a group of giants have left their golf balls behind, but is in any case it is an impressive sight.

Wilderness evening at Camp Barentz

Camp Barentz boasts an amazing location at the foot of the mountain, Breinosa, right below Mine 7. As we arrive at the cosy wooden cabins we will be met by the evening’s host. Good drinks and a delicious homemade reindeer bidos will be served, together with campfire coffee and dessert. After a delicious dinner, it is time to learn about the king of the Arctic, the polar bear. We will sit around the fire, while our host shares information and photographs of this incredible animal. This will be an exciting evening.
